    Homework: Draw lines to divide a page of your art notebook into 6 sections each. Draw shapes in each section: Use one of the new shapes we practiced in our notes this year (pentagon, hexagon or octagon). Use 4 other regular shapes (circle, square, triangle, oval, rectangle). Use one irregular shape. Make each shape that you chose into a drawing. (example: Make a triangle into a christmas tree with decorations). Color all drawings with crayons or colored pencils. No markers in notebook. (Due September)

     Bring in an already made craft object or sculpture that reflects your heritage (African, Irish, French, Polish, Italian, Indian, Philippine, Chinese, Caribbean, Hispanic, etc.) Write a short explanation on an index card of what the craft is called, what it is used for or what it means, what nation it comes from, and how it is made. Be prepared to give a presentation to the class.

    December/January 3D Art: Sculpture
    *Artist of the Month: Carl Wright

    Class Project: We will  draw and model 3D shapes
    with pencil and modeling clay and make an
    abstract sculpture from Play-doh.



    Carl Wright, a 20th Century, abstract sculptor carves his sculptures
    from stone. His work is known for its fluidity and motion and is exhibited in several major cities around the world. This piece is called "Journey."


     Class project Homework for January:
     
    Use clay to make objects for each of the 3D shapes. You can combine 2 or more shapes in one object. Example: use a rectangular prism and a triangular prism to make a house. Decorate with different colors.

    Class project: Make an abstract landscape using Primary, secondary and Intermediate colors as a background for our abstract figure.

    Homework: (done in school) Color in the handout for the Intermediate color wheel. Use Crayons, oil pastels or colored pencils. Make sure you use the correct colors. You do not have to mix the secondary and primary colors. 
    Just Mix the intermediate colors
    red and orange = red orange,
    yellow and orange = yellow orange,
    blue and green = blue green,
    yellow and green = yellow green,
    red and violet = red violet, and
    blue and violet = blue violet

    Student Artists of the Month:
    Intermediate color mix Abstract Painting

    Art Supply list

    Grades 4 and 5:
     4 sharpened pencils,
    1 pink or white eraser,
    a pencil sharpener, 4 oz.
    Elmer's glue,
    2 glue sticks,
    a pack of 24 Crayola crayons,

    an 8-10 pack of Crayola classic colors markers (broad line size),

    a tray of 8 Crayola watercolors,



    a 4oz. pack of Model Magic (any color)

    a marble notebook and a t-shirt smock. 



    A 16 pack pentel oil pastels,

    (if you can find them online, they are cheaper and
    take up less space than the Crayola oil pastels but Crayola are still the best!)

    A 12 pack of colored pencils.



    and a fine point black sharpie permanent marker,

    Mark all supplies,
    including t-shirt smock, paints, markers, oil pastels, pencils and notebook with your child’s name and grade. 


    *******************************************
    Grades 4 to 8 need an appropriately sized art box. Plastic shoe boxes are recommended because they are less expensive and they stack easily. Notebooks will be kept separately.
    Mark ALL supplies, smock and notebook with child’s name and grade.  
         Please feel free to reuse all supplies until they are outgrown, dried out or used up!).
