Themes: Investigating, Weather, Winter

Language & Literacy: 

1. Read a winter (snow- related) story with your child. Ask open-ended questions. Investigate what happens to the snow in the story. For example, “Did the snow melt? Why? Where did the snow come from?” Then have your child paint a picture of their favorite part of the story. Ask your child to explain why this is their favorite part of the story.

 Writing Skills:

1. Practice tracing/writing your name on the attached paper using the appropriate grasp. 

Cutting Skills:  ***Remember THUMBS UP***

1. Cut out the winter clothing and paste them on your person. You may color it and decorate your person as you wish.  
2. Create your own snowflake. Fold paper in various ways and use your scissors to cut different shapes. Then unfold to see your creation!

Math Skills:

 1. Count the snowflakes. Practice writing the correct number. 

Fine Motor Skills:

1. Practice independently putting on your coat and zippering. Also, practice putting on your own backpack.

Science Skills:

1. Make your own science book titled, “Where I Hibernate.” Draw where each animal hibernates. Color your book pages and share with your family. 
2. Notice the weather: Invite your child to check the weather with you. Look out the window. Invite your child to share what they see and feel. Record the weather for the week with your child. 

Free Drawing:

1. Draw a picture of a winter scene. Ask your child various open-ended questions about their winter scene, such as “What did you draw? How did you make the snow? How did the snow get there? Etc. 

***Remember to break up these activities throughout the month.  Enjoy!***
