September 2020
Dear Families,
Welcome to St. Teresa-St.Rita STREAM Academy 3K for All! I am so excited to have your child in my class this year! I believe that communication is the key to your child’s success and a great parent/teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. The best way to get in contact with me is by using the SeeSaw app. This will allow for fast and easy communication daily. You will receive information regarding how to set up a parent account. I will also do my part and will keep you updated as well. Our classroom is called the 3K Green Room, our assistant is Mrs. Barbra Todaro, and our Pre-K for All Coordinator is Mrs. Janet Weingarten. Together we will provide the best 3K experience for your child.
Below is information to help us have a successful school year!
Class Expectations:
1. Arrive on time! 3K’s regular weekly schedule is 8:30 to 2:50pm. Arrive on time, so your child can enter the classroom with their friends! It can be much harder when they arrive after all of the other children have settled into activities. The Green Room uses Door # 2.
2. Bring in supplies. Please label all supplies with your child’s name.
1. Folder
2. Backpack (large enough to fit the folder)

* Change of clothing should be updated to reflect the current season.
3. Follow dress code. The school gym uniform is required and can be purchased at Flynn O’Hara Uniform Store. (Write name on tags) Your child is to wear white velcro sneakers to school every day.
4. Follow the classroom rules! Since this is the first time that many students have had to interact with other children for an extensive amount of time, these rules will be modeled. The students will also be given different, but safe ways to solve problems that may arise.
Our Classroom Rules:
1. Listen to all teachers
2. Use kind words
3. Keep hands and feet to yourself
4. Use quiet voices
5. Respect yourself and others
* Please remind your child of these rules at home as well.
Birthdays: We currently are unable to distribute any treats at this time. We will do our best to acknowledge your child’s birthday during the school day.
Lunch/Snack: Nucci’s will be providing a snack and lunch daily for your child. Please check the school website for a calendar. You may send in a healthy snack or additional lunch, if your child does not like what is provided. It is recommended that you send in a labeled water bottle for your child, especially during the warmer months.
*No products with peanuts- “NUT FREE ZONE”
Toileting: Students will be encouraged and supported to use the toileting facilities independently with supervision. We will do our best to encourage your child to use the facilities throughout the day to prevent accidents. If you have any concerns, please let us know as soon as possible.
Home-School Connection: Monthly newsletters will be sent home to update you on our current study, activities and optional home activities. If you have any questions, or concerns please bring it directly to the teacher, so it can be addressed more accurately. Extra practice activities or family projects may be sent home at times. The activities are suggested, but completing the activities will help reinforce material learned in school as well as provide great family fun time!
Absent Notes: If your child is absent, please send in a note the next day stating the reason why your child was absent (sick, doctors, family event, etc.). This note is required for school’s records. We would appreciate a message prior through the Seesaw app, if possible.
Health and Wellness: Your child is required to wear a properly fitted mask daily to school. It is recommended to keep an extra mask in your child’s backpack.
If your child becomes ill or hurt in school, he/she will be brought to the school nurse. You will receive a phone call regarding what has occurred. If your child has a fever, vomits or diarrhea, you will need to pick your child up from school.
Parents should take their child’s temperature every day before their child leaves for school. If your child has a fever of 100.0 or over, your child should be kept home from school. A fever is a key symptom of COVID-19. You should ask your child if he/she has any other symptoms of COVID-19 (see below). If your child complains of these symptoms or has a fever, or you answer yes to a question in section two, please, keep them home, call your child’s doctor and contact the school to report your child’s absence. If your child is sick with a common cold or other ailment your child should stay home until symptoms subside and they are fever free.
SECTION 1: Symptoms
Before you or your child leaves for school each day – Consider all that apply:
_______ fever or chills – Is fever 100.0°F or higher?

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19. This list does not include all possible symptoms. CDC will continue to update this list as they learn more about COVID-19. https://www.cdc.gov.
SECTION 2: Close Contact/Positive Test/Potential Exposure & Travel
______had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 10 minutes) with a person confirmed positive in the past 14 days or tested positive for COVID-19 yourself?

Hygiene is a very important aspect of 3K, your child will wash their hands before eating, after toilet use, tissue use, sneezing, coughing, etc. We follow very strict standards on toy and table cleaning as well.
Independence: Responsibility and independence is prevalent in our classroom. We will be there to assist your child when needed, however this is a key aspect of Pre-k. This includes being responsible for their own belongings, carrying their own belongings, cleaning up after oneself, etc. Please encourage this at home as well.
Website: For further information in regard to any school or class activities please visit https://stsrstreamacademy.com. Also, teacher web pages can be accessed through the main website.
3K Curriculum: Explorations
3K curriculum is divided into 3 Explorations: Our Community, Our Environment and Our Impact. The Explorations are grounded in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework. Explorations invite engagement in comprehensive, in-depth, play-based learning across domains. Topics and activities in Explorations begin with routines and the classroom community then progress to more abstract ideas throughout the year. You will receive information regarding the current Exploration in our monthly newsletter.
Children are so impressionable and very teachable. It is our desire that we, as families and teachers work together as a team in order to cultivate the academic, physical, social, and emotional growth of your child so that they can be successful as they proceed throughout their educational journey.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kaitlin Konig
