The earth is always turning. Day and night happen when the Earth turns. When one
side of the Earth is facing the sun, it is day. When one side is not facing the sun,
it is night.
THE MOON
The moon is not like Earth It has rocks and soil, but it does not have air or living
things. The moon has many craters or holes in the ground. These craters were
made long ago when rocks from space crashed into the moon.
THE SHAPE OF THE MOON
The moon seems to change its shape every day. It really doesn't. It only looks like
this because only the part of the moon in the light can be seen. The rest of the
moon is in the dark and can't be seen. These different shapes are called phases of
the moon. It takes about a month to see all the phases.
OUR SOLAR SYSTEM
The sun is a star that is the center of our solar system. All of the planets in our
solar system orbit or move around another object (the sun) along a path.
Scientists use telescopes to look at parts of the solar system because telescopes
make objects that are far away look closer. Aside from telescopes, scientists
send cameras and other equipment into space to take pictures and collect
information. Astronauts are also sent into space to collect information.
